100 Standards for Everyone to Master: Tips from an ACHC Surveyor

As hospital accreditation professionals, you and your team have a lot to keep up with. You know the major standards through and through. But what about the many standards that are often overlooked but are still important to your organization’s success? ACHCU is here to help you master those, too.

Survey Success Is a Team Effort.

No doubt you have a manager responsible for each chapter of your standards manual. But with most chapter managers focused on their own chapters, it’s easy for everyone to lose sight of the big picture. Tatum Parmer, a former ACHC Surveyor, is here to cut through the complexity of working across chapters and departments.

For this master class, you are invited to attend as a team. Tatum will guide you through a list you can call The Vital 100 – a selection of 100 standards in each hospital program’s manual that apply to everyone in the organization. Success with these standards requires coordination among chapter leaders. Tatum will give you tips for identifying and tackling each chapter manager’s responsibilities regarding these standards.

This course is perfect for bringing your departmental leaders together. You can attend together, get your questions answered, and review the recording afterward at your convenience. Then you can be confident everyone is on the same page for compliance and survey preparation.

What You’ll Learn

  • Outline the process for survey preparation, including policy and procedure development, evidenced binder (electronic or paper) preparation, staff education, and methods of pre-survey assessment.
  • Review standards from all chapters that apply to all areas within the organization – such as Human Resources and Quality Performance standards – so managers understand compliance needs outside their principal chapters responsibility.
  • Discuss the importance of committee function in preparation for survey.
  • Review the process for action plans and post-survey resolution/communication with ACHC.

Why You Should Attend

  • Separate sessions for critical access hospitals and acute care hospitals cater to your organization’s specific needs.
  • Access to the recording allows you to use it for ongoing professional development, including onboarding and staff education refreshers.
  • One single registration covers your entire team.

Who Should Attend

Though we recommend the entire two hours of each class for all of your managers, we recognize not everyone can commit to the full two hours. But that’s what the recording is for! Here are the staff we recommend be involved in this training:

  • Accreditation Coordinators.
  • Facility Managers, such as Materials Management and Director of Plant Operations.
  • Ancillary Department Managers, such as Radiology/Lab and Dietary.
  • Clinical Leaders, such as Clinical Nurse Managers and Nursing Directors, Nursing Managers, or Nursing Directors.
  • Leaders from departments with patient interaction, such as surgery and outpatient areas like provider-based physician clinics.
